(More customer reviews)I've tried out quite a few portable speakers for my Sansa e270 player in the last week or so to see what sounded the best & these Philips do a far better job than any of the others. Amazing sound for a portable speaker. The bass boost really makes them knock the socks off of many other "tinny" sounding brands including Sony. The 4 watts for the system makes for a solid playback.
It does take 6 AAA batteries (I'm using rechargables) but still only weighs about 12 oz with them in the speakers. It does say that you can use an ac adpater but I haven't found anywhere to plug one in & have emailed Philips about it with no response yet.
They really aren't small enough to fit in a shirt pocket but certainly small enough to travel with or throw in a purse / backpack.
The only other set that I've found that comes close - still not quite as good on sound but a bit lighter / a touch more compact - is the Logic3 i-Station Traveller - model IP102 -(yes that's how they spell traveler). These don't carry as much volume or bass as the Philips do but you can use an ac adapter for them & they only take 4 AAA batteries.
BIG CON: BAD Philips for falsly stating / advertising that these speakers can be used with an ac adapter! If not for this situation, I would have given these a resounding 5 stars for the price point.
