Arkon SM410 Universal Windshield with Dashboard and Vent Mount for Smartphones and PDAs - Mount - Bulk Packaging - Black Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I purchased this for my Droid X. The X fits allowing access to the usb port for charging. The camera sits above the mount so you can use it to shoot video while driving. The only negative comment I have with this product is the vent mount. In both of my vehicles (Taurus and Siena), the clips really don't hold all that well allowing the whole mount to move with the additional weight of the Droid. Further, trying to use the phone requires holding it steady first. A quick and easy solution was to add a small piece of rubber tubing to each plastic clip. I picked this up at Ace for < .50. The vent mount is now rock solid, like the windshield mount.
I prefer the vent mount as the Droid X has an issue with heat. This keeps the phone out of the window and allows the AC to blow across it when on.

Kensington K39217US Universal Windshield/Vent Car Mount for Smartphones (Black) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)This Kensington "Universal Windshield/Vent Car Mount" is one of the handiest gadgets I have come across in a lone time! This well made device allows one of my smartphones (my personal EVO or my work BlackBerry 8330) to be mounted on the window or clipped into a vent for easy access and visibility. Here are my observations:
+ Good Materials; while mostly plastic, this is well made and heavy enough to give me confidence to trust my expensive equipment in it
+ Long Neck on Window Holder; gives the ability to position it at an optimal viewing place, even on deep windshields (like on my van)
+ Strong Suction Cup on Window Holder; this draws a good, solid vacuum and resisted my testing attempts to pull it off
+ Handy Vent Mount; included for states where window mounts are not legal (California and Minnesota are listed in the instructions), but I like it because it is fairly small can be easily carried in my PC case for use in rental cars when traveling
+ Rotatable; both mounting options allow the device to be rotated 360 degrees, which is handy when using the EVO as a GPS
+ Fits All of My Devices; my EVO, BlackBerry, and iPod Touch fit well, even in their cases
I was lucky enough to pick this up on a "Gold Box" sale but am seriously considering picking up a second one, even if it is full price.
Highly Recommended!

Arkon Removable Air Vent Mount with Swivel Ball Adjustment for Universal Phone, Smartphone and PDA (Black) Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)I purchased this car mount (on Amazon) last week for my new Droid, so that I can use its GPS feature. Dash mount and windshield mount versions wouldn't work well for me, so I found this one, a vent mount with the swiveling feature. It allows me to reposition the phone as needed based on the angle of the sun. It can be used for pretty much any smartphone, it's not specific to any make or model. Some mounts don't work well with cases, but this works just fine because you put the phone in the mount and then squeeze the sides until they fit your phone perfectly. Then I rotate it to landscape and I'm good to go. It doesn't block the mini-USB port so I can easily charge it (a must-have if using the battery-draining GPS feature).
The only negative about this mount is the difficulty of removing the vent clips. This is due to the angled design of the horizontal vents in my car. I don't know if others would have that problem, and don't know how well it would work with vertical vents.
Also, I'm not sure how well it works for people who want to use the phone for calls, because I turn my ringer off and don't talk or text while driving. Studies have shown that distracted driving is just as dangerous as drunk driving, and a car mount won't make that any safer. It's a soapbox issue for me because my sisters were in a bad car accident caused by a texting driver who blew a red light going 50mph. Oprah's gotten on her high horse with a "No Phone Zone" campaign, and I'm right there with her (even though I'm not in her target demographic). If you really need to use the phone that badly, just pull over.
